Attics and Roofs
Roof and attic insulation is just one part of an overall system of house components and must be considered in the context of the other portions of the building envelope and mechanical systems. A HOT2000 computer analysis done on all R-2000 Homes helps you determine the most cost-effective level of roof insulation for your particular house design.
Quantity of insulation alone does not determine its effectiveness. The performance of roofs and attics can be improved by:
- maintaining full insulation thickness at eves, by incorporating raised heel trusses
- installing a wind barrier at eves, to prevent wind from blowing through insulation
and
- sealing air tight, all penetrations in the ceiling — from plumbing vent stacks, pot lights, partition walls, and electrical fixtures and wiring
