Healthy Housing

Due to the nature of our climate, Manitobans tend to spend the majority of their time indoors - where many common pollutants are found at higher levels than outdoors. Of all the places we spend our day, it is at home where we have the greatest control over our environment.

Approximately 40% of households contain at least one person who is sensitive to indoor pollutants. For these individuals, healthy housing can make the difference between normal function and some degree of disability.

Studies have shown that there is a wide range of sensitivity among people. Some react immediately and negatively to poor indoor air quality (IAQ) while others accumulate that stress over time and show effects at a future date.

Respiratory health and IAQ are linked. The materials and features you chose for your new R-2000 Home will affect IAQ.

A healthier home environment just doesn't happen; it is planned that way!

What makes an R-2000 Home healthier than other new houses?

A well designed and solidly built house envelope
Key considerations are insulation, airtightness, high performance windows, and a waterproof foundation can truly make a difference.

Elimination of indoor pollutant sources
Every material and appliance you choose becomes a part of your living environment.

Ventilation system
Addresses potential interior pollution off-gassed from materials and pollutants generated from occupant lifestyles.

Air filtration system
Cleans air borne particulates out of the household air which is heated or cooled and recirculated.

Central vacuum systems vented to the exterior
Ensures even fine particles are vented right out of your home.
