House Design Geometry

This section discusses

Increasing complexity of house designs

complicated two-storey designToday's house designs have become more dynamic and complex. While we may have grown up in a simple house that had four corners and a flat eight foot high ceiling throughout, consumers today are asking their builders for more. Vaulted ceilings add drama and a sense of spaciousness. Two story designs make better use of smaller lot sizes. Raised basements allow for larger basement windows. Placing the master bedroom over the garage makes better use of internal floor area. Interesting design features increase the number of external building corners. All these subtle design progressions change the volume and shape of the house and have a direct impact on the energy used to heat that house. They need to be considered at the design stage with your architect or design professional.
