Lighting

This section discusses:

Lighting performance in your home

Though lighting is a small component of residential energy use, it is an important factor in an energy-efficient house.

Using day lighting as much as possible helps to reduce the need for electrical light and the demand for purchased energy.

Many lighting suppliers have knowledgeable staff on hand to help you make the appropriate choices in the lighting design for your home.

Remember:

  • Don't use high wattage fixtures where low wattage will do
  • Provide a mix between general room and task lighting
  • Don't put too many lights on one switch - dividing lights into smaller groups allows independent use as needed
