Water Conservation

This section discusses:

Water conserving toilets

Almost 50% of the water used in the average household is utilized to flush toilets. A significant impact can be made in lowering water usage, costs, and the burden on rural septic fields by choosing water efficient toilet fixtures to service your bathroom needs in a new or existing house.

Three general types of toilets are available in the market: ones using 20 liters per flush, 13 liters per flush, and 6 liters per flush. Toilets using 20 liters have been gradually phased off the market but are still available for purchase.

When the lower consumption toilets first came onto the market, there were many consumer complaints about their flushing performance. For the most part, those complaints have been addressed over time and there currently exists several models of water saving and ultra low flush toilets on the market that provide proven acceptable performance.

R-2000 Homes must use ultra low flush toilets, which consume 6 liters of water of less per flush.
